Great Reflex - Greater Composure

Everyone knows President Bush of USA was attacked by a shoe-thrower, with two size-10 shoes, one left and one right, at a press conference in Iraq on his secret trip there. If you haven't, under whatever circumstance, here's the news. And here's the video clip.

This post is not about the "olds" (you know as against "news" ~ lame, I know : )).

When I first watched the clip, my first thought was, "Wow! That president has great reflex!"

But reading the newspaper front page yesterday and saw the following combo images made me realise I missed another great performance.

Did you notice how cool, calm and collected the Iraqi Prime Minister was standing beside the ducking President, and the flying size-10 shoe?

Think he knew it was coming or is shoe throwing a common practice, I heard it was considered a big insult but don't know how often it happens.

The most significant thing about the incident is the fact that an Iraqi was able to throw the shoe and LIVE! Liberation is GOOD!

The protests that followed also prove that benefits of democracy and freedom. I wonder how Saddam would have dealt with such protests...

I applaud President Bush!

The Prime Minister actually tried to block one of them. A man being able to give his thoughts is always a good thing but he could have just easily gotten up and declared
"President Bush you are the scum on the bottom of my shoes"

It is funny, and it's hard to rewrite the video and say it was 'more success in Iraq'.

Hmm well the Iraqi PM obviously has to avoid far more dangerous things than shoes flying at him, I wish someone would throw some shoes at me, I happen to be a size 10 (UK size) - I'd like some hiking boots but that would hurt so a pair of soft sneakers will do :p

yup. i notice how composure the iraqi pm is. he might be too happy to show any emotions. :D

The fact is: a shoe was thrown towards a person.

How we interpret the incident, and what conclusion we draw from it depends on our stands on various issues - too diverse for one single post.

:) So, it took a post about President Bush to draw you out from your "slumber". Happy to hear your thought again in my blog.
